HIPAA and Research
If your proposed study is related to the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1966 and the HIPAA Privacy Rule of 2001, you may wish to read the National Institutes of Health publication, Clinical Research and the HIPAA Privacy Rule, and other publications available on the NIH HIPAA Privacy Rule Web site. A module addressing HIPAA is also available through the CITI Course.

Record Keeping Requirements for Psychology Studies
Researchers who follow the APA Ethical Guidelines for conducting research are required to keep all study records in a secure location for seven (7) years. See the APA Record Keeping Guideline to view the guideline in pdf.
Research Studies Conducted Online
Researchers whose studies will include an Internet component, such as an online survey, questionnaire, focus group, or interviews, are required to complete the optional Internet Research module of the CITI Course.
International Research Studies
Researchers whose studies will be conducted in a location other than the United States are required to complete the optional International Research module of the CITI Course.
