A Glossary of Union Institute & University Terminology and Acronyms
Union Institute & University has a unique vocabulary that describes what we do and how we do
it. For example, we have "learners," not students. Our graduate learners write a
"Project Demonstrating Excellence," or PDE, instead of a dissertation. These terms and
their definitions provide one way to understand the operational procedures of
the Union.
If the term has specific scope (CUS, GC, etc.) it is shown after the term
preceded with a " - ". If the term has an acronym it will be listed in parenthesis. Click on a
term to learn more about it.
