Commencement

Union Institute & University's 2008 National Commencement

September 26 - 27

(Updated March 11, 2008)

Criteria for Doctoral Learners:  Learners eligible to participate in the 2008 commencement ceremony must have completed document reconciliation and received final approval from the “internal” reader (in the Graduate Dean’s office) no later than July 18, 2008. Although we cannot predict exact timetables for the internal review process, the Dean’s Office recommends that learners make plans to submit all documents required to schedule the pre-graduation meeting no later than February 1, 2008. These documents would be submitted to the Program Specialists. In addition, learners must clear their accounts with the Business Office by July 18 in order to participate in the ceremony.

Please note: Learners who receive approval by internal dean’s review after July 18 will not be eligible to participate this year.  Please note that the office of Special Events also has a clear timetable for regalia orders and participation confirmation.  Learners should work with the Dean’s Office on issues of academic approval and with the Special Events office for ceremony details and logistics.  Questions regarding issues of academic standing or academic approval should be directed to your program specialist here at UI&U.

Criteria for Undergraduate Learners:  You must be a graduate of UI&U by the end of the Spring/Summer Session II (August 16).

Initial Commencement Mailing:  A packet of detailed information, including the petition to commence form, will be mailed to your home the week of June 23 from the eventcoordinator@tui.edu.  This information will explain the commencement proceedings.  This information will not pertain to your academic standing or academic approval--which you will need from the Graduate College, Undergraduate Center, or Registrar's office in order to participate.

Friday, September 26:  PRESIDENT'S OPEN HOUSE/RECEPTION (to be determined)

Saturday, September 27:  COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY AND RECEPTION

The commencement ceremony is a special event for participants and their family and friends to celebrate academic achievements.  It is not certification of  your graduation.   Graduation occurs when you complete all degree requirements and financial obligations to the university.  Only then do you receive your diploma and transcript from the Registrar’s Office.
