Charles T. Morrissey's experience as a professional oral historian began almost 40 years ago, when he was commissioned to record interviews with former members of the White House staff during the Truman Administration. Shortly after the death of John F. Kennedy, he was selected to direct the Oral History Project for the John F. Kennedy Library.
While directing an intensive two-year history of the Ford Foundation, he served as President of the U.S. Oral History Association. During the past three decades, Mr. Morrissey's accomplishments have included the direction of an oral history of the United States Congress, lectures on oral history methodology and application at more than 50 colleges, and publication of more than 30 articles on the use of oral history as a research tool.
He has served as a consultant on a variety of history projects at the University of California and elsewhere, has twice been a Fellow at the Aspen Institute in Colorado and has received the Harvey A. Kantor Award for Outstanding Achievement in Oral History. From 1985 to 1989, he was editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Oral History. Currently, Mr. Morrissey serves as the Oral History Consultant for Baylor College of Medicine and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is also serves as a consultant for the William J. Clinton Presidential History project in Arkansas.
